March 16, 2010 - 06:54 AM Cathy MacDonald - cathytwilight@iburdt.co.za Welcome to South AFrica to help with this pandemic. I have been working with street children for 25 years. We are feeding +- 400 a day. We send our boys to school Our concentration is more on education and skills training the aids programme is mostly handled by the boys as peer counsellors. This programme was introduced as an extra because so many of our outreach and our boys are vulnerable to this pandemic. Our mission is to see our shelter boys as agents of change. The boys conduct workshops and seminars. Peer Counsellors who create awareness and change in this pandemic, educating the youth about potential dangers of unprotected sex An exciting community event was organised by Twilight Children peer counsellors to contribute to the awareness rising on the prevention of HIV infection. HIV/Aids The boys roped in other shelters like New Life shelter and Usindiso. Twilight Children peer counsellors led the programme Twilight children performed a drama about HIV/AIDS which clearly showed how naïve young person’s get infected in the big towns and are taken back home when they are sick. The burden of care falls back on the poor rural communities. Twilight Children boys went out into the community to distribute condoms while talking to the people about HIV/AIDS. The last one was held on the 17th July 2009. You would be amazed at how many children and adults went to be tested voluntary So far this programme is repeated twice a year would lke to do more Road shows during 2010. We would welcome a visit by you we are very proud of our achievements IP : 196.2.102.242 |
